Biography (1 new item)

Speaker · Author · Professor

Neeltje van Horen is a professor of financial economics at the University of Amsterdam and a senior research advisor at the Bank of England. Her research focuses on global finance, international banking, and how the financial system shapes the real economy. Her work has been published in leading academic journals, and she has held roles at the World Bank and De Nederlandsche Bank, as well as visiting positions at the EBRD, IMF, Chicago Fed, and the Donders Institute of Brain, Cognition, and Behaviour.

As her academic career advanced, Neeltje found herself grappling with pressures that many professionals recognise: self-doubt, stress, and a pace that never paused. Over time, she realised she needed a better way to navigate the demands of her work and life.

That search led her into neuroscience and psychology. By studying how the brain works — and how small mental shifts change the way we think, feel and respond — she began to reshape the patterns that held her back. The impact was profound: more clarity, better focus, and a calmer, more grounded way of moving through her life and career.

That experience sparked a new mission: to translate the science of the brain into practical tools that help others think more clearly, feel more in control, and show up at their best — both at work and in life. Neeltje now shares her perspectives as an international keynote speaker and writer, reaching audiences across companies, policy institutions, and universities. Her book Ignite brings together insights from neuroscience, psychology, and economics with relatable stories and practical guidance.

Neeltje divides her time between London — where she lives with her partner, his children, and their two cats — and Amsterdam.
